DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Blanca was located near latitude 12.3 North, longitude 105.1 West. Blanca is moving toward the northwest near 3 mph (6 km/h), and this general motion with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. However, Blanca is forecast to restrengthen some during the next 48 hours. An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft will likely reach Blanca on Friday. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blanca will likely affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next couple of days.
