DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Jimena was located near latitude 12.4 North, longitude 122.0 West. Jimena is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through early Saturday. A west-northwestward motion is forecast late Saturday through Sunday. Jimena has been rapidly intensifying, and maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Jimena is expected to become a major hurricane tonight. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km).
