DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 100 PM CDT (1800 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Marty was located near latitude 16.2 North, longitude 103.0 West. Marty is moving toward the north near 3 mph (6 km/h). A slow northward to north-northeastward motion should continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the center of Marty is expected to near the southwestern coast of Mexico through Wednesday but remain offshore. Maximum sustained winds remain near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected today, but weakening is forecast to begin on Tuesday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical storm conditions are possible within the warning area by early Tuesday. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area on Tuesday. RAINFALL: Marty is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches over the Mexican state of Guerrero and 2 to 5 inches over the state of Michoacan through Thursday. Isolated amounts of 20 inches are possible in Guerro from the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains toward the coast. These rains are expected to produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides, especially in areas of mountainous terrain. SURF: Swells generated by Marty are affecting portions of the coast of southern Mexico. These swells are likely to cause life- threatening surf and rip current conditions.
