Wednesday, May 19, 2021 is designated as a backup test date. The purpose of the testing is to ensure NWS field offices can receive tropical cyclone guidance used to prepare local and regional forecasts in concert with the forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). No products that include hazards (i.e., watches or warnings) or Valid Time Event Code (VTEC) are part of this test. The Probabilistic Tropical Cyclone Storm Surge model (P-Surge) will be run with an initial time of 1200 UTC for a test tropical cyclone scenario affecting the southeastern coast of the United States. This test data will be available on the Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) and NOAAPORT by approximately 1550 UTC. The NWS will continue periodic internal tropical software and data flow testing during the remainder of this hurricane season.
