Subject:   Tropical Cyclone Data Flow Testing Tuesday May 18, 2021

The National Weather Service (NWS) will commence with tropical 
cyclone data flow testing on Tuesday May 18, 2021.  Wednesday, May 
19, 2021 is designated as a backup test date.  The purpose of the 
testing is to ensure NWS field offices can receive tropical cyclone 
guidance used to prepare local and regional forecasts in concert 
with the forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).  No 
products that include hazards (i.e., watches or warnings) or Valid 
Time Event Code (VTEC) are part of this test.

The Probabilistic Tropical Cyclone Storm Surge model (P-Surge) will 
be run with an initial time of 1200 UTC for a test tropical cyclone 
scenario affecting the southeastern coast of the United States.  
This test data will be available on the Satellite Broadcast Network 
(SBN) and NOAAPORT by approximately 1550 UTC.

Other internal gridded forecast data from NHC needed by NWS field 
offices for tropical cyclone events will also be tested, but none of 
this data is intended to be released externally through NWS 
dissemination or communication systems.  
      
The NWS will continue periodic internal tropical software and data 
flow testing during the remainder of this hurricane season. Public 
notification will be provided for any future test producing 
externally-visible test products.
