DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Blanca was located near latitude 13.1 North, longitude 104.6 West. Blanca is currently stationary, and little motion is expected for the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is forecast, and Blanca is expected to become a hurricane later today and be near major hurricane strength on Wednesday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 995 mb (29.39 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blanca will begin affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next couple of days.
