Interests along the west-central coast of mainland Mexico should monitor the progress of Blanca. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Blanca was located near latitude 12.4 North, longitude 104.7 West. Blanca is stationary and little motion is anticipated today. The hurricane should begin to move toward the north-northwest with an increase in forward speed on Thursday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts. Blanca is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 948 mb (28.00 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blanca will begin affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next couple of days.
