DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Dolores was located near latitude 19.5 North, longitude 111.4 West. Dolores is moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph (11 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue through Saturday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts. Dolores is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Gradual weakening is forecast to commence later today or tonight. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 160 miles (260 km). An automated station on Socorro Island reported a sustained wind of 55 mph (89 km/h) with a gust to 80 mph (129 km/h) within the past hour. The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Dolores are affecting portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and Baja California Sur.
