DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Jimena was located near latitude 12.3 North, longitude 123.1 West. Jimena is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through early Saturday. A west-northwestward motion is forecast Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Jimena continues to rapidly intensify, and maximum sustained winds have increased to near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Jimena is forecast to become a major hurricane by tonight. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km).
