DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Kevin was located near latitude 17.5 North, longitude 115.3 West. Kevin is moving toward the north near 6 mph (9 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Friday. A turn toward the north-northwest is forecast Friday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next day or so, and Kevin is expected to remain a tropical storm through Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. A sustained wind of 34 mph (55 km/h) and a gust as high as 47 mph (76 km/h) were reported by an automated Mexican navy station on Clarion Island during the past several hours.
