Ian is moving toward the northeast near 35 mph (56 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue with an increase in forward speed during the next 24 to 36 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 24 to 36 hours, and Ian is expected to become a storm-force extratropical low on Friday.
