DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Lester was located near latitude 17.7 North, longitude 137.5 West. Lester is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h). The hurricanes should move toward the west or west-northwest at about the same forward speed over the next two days. Maximum sustained winds are near 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher gusts. Lester is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, though Lester is anticipated to remain a strong hurricane. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km).
