DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Darby was located near latitude 22.4 North, longitude 159.4 West. Darby is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue over the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Darby is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Monday, and become a post-tropical remnant low by Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 mb (29.80 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical Storm force winds are expected over Oahu and Kauai tonight. SURF: Swells generated by Darby will affect Kauai and Oahu tonight before diminishing Monday. RAINFALL: Rainfall of 2 to 5 inches, with possible isolated maximum amounts of up to 7 inches, can be expected over portions of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday.
