DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 800 PM HST (0600 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Darby was located near latitude 22.0 North, longitude 159.0 West. Darby is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (21 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue over the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the center of Darby will pass northeast of Kauai tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts, mainly to the northeast of the center. Darby is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Monday, and become a post-tropical remnant low in about 2 days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center, mainly to the northeast of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 mb (29.80 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical Storm force winds are expected over Oahu and Kauai tonight. SURF: Swells generated by Darby will affect Kauai and Oahu tonight before diminishing Monday. RAINFALL: Additional rainfall of 2 to 5 inches, with possible isolated maximum amounts of up to 7 inches, can be expected over portions of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday.
