DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lester was located near latitude 36.5 North, longitude 166.0 West. Lester is moving toward the north-northeast near 16 mph (26 km/h). A turn toward the northeast with a dramatic increase in forward speed is expected overnight and Wednesday, as Lester transitions to an extratropical low. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in intensity is forecast through Wednesday. Lester is forecast to dissipate on Thursday as it becomes absorbed into the circulation of a larger extratropical low near the Gulf of Alaska. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches).
