DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Madeline was located near latitude 18.2 North, longitude 144.6 West. Madeline is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h) and this motion is expected to become westerly later today through early Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. Slight strengthening is expected later today and Tuesday, followed by slight weakening early Wednesday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
