DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Madeline was located near latitude 16.7 North, longitude 157.0 West. Madeline is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Madeline is forecast to become a Tropical Depression by Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical storm force gusts are still possible over portions of Hawaii and Maui Counties for the next few hours.
