DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ulika was located near latitude 12.4 North, longitude 140.0 West. Ulika is moving toward the northeast near 5 mph (7 km/h). This general motion will continue through tonight followed by a turn toward the north on Wednesday and Wednesday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected today, with little change in strength expected tonight and Wednesday. Gradual weakening is then expected Wednesday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).
