DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Fernanda was located near latitude 19.1 North, longitude 146.4 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h) and this general motion is expected for the next couple days with an increase in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, with Fernanda expected to become a remnant low tonight. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- Surf...Large swells generated by Fernanda will continue to build through the weekend along east facing shores of the main Hawaiian islands.
