DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 11.2 North, longitude 116.0 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a general motion toward the west is expected during the next 48 hour. Fernanda is rapidly intensifying and maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional rapid strengthening is forecast, and Fernanda is likely to become a major hurricane by Friday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches).
