DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 11.4 North, longitude 124.0 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest is expected tonight, and that motion should continue into early next week. Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts. Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are expected during the next two days, but Fernanda is forecast to remain a major hurricane into early next week. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 955 mb (28.20 inches).
