DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 13.4 North, longitude 130.1 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn to the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next day or so. Maximum sustained winds remain near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts. Fernanda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Gradual weakening is expected during the next couple of days. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km).
