DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 400 AM CDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Hilary was located near latitude 14.0 North, longitude 103.8 West. Hilary is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general direction of motion with some increase in forward speed is expected over the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Hilary is likely to become a major hurricane on Tuesday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km).
