DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 900 PM MDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Norma was located near latitude 18.3 North, longitude 109.3 West. Norma is moving toward the north near 6 mph (9 km/h), and this general motion at a slightly slower forward speed is expected through Friday night. A turn toward the north-northwest is forecast on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Norma could become a hurricane by Friday night or Saturday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
