DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Barbara was located near latitude 10.6 North, longitude 110.4 West. Barbara is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue over the next several days with a gradual decrease in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast and Barbara is expected to become a hurricane by Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).
