DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Barbara was located near latitude 18.6 North, longitude 137.5 West. Barbara is moving toward the west near 15 mph (24 km/h). A continued westward motion with an increase in forward speed is expected for the next couple of days. Recent satellite wind data indicate that maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Barbara will likely become a post-tropical cyclone on Saturday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) mainly to the north of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
