DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Flossie was located near latitude 17.1 North, longitude 137.8 West. Flossie is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h), and this general heading with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected through early next week. On the forecast track, Flossie is forecast to cross into the central Pacific basin later today. Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is anticipated over the weekend and will likely continue through early next week. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center.
