DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM CVT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Rene was located near latitude 16.5 North, longitude 26.5 West. Rene is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h), and a motion toward the west to west-northwest is expected over the next two or three days. On the forecast track, the center of Rene will move away from the Cabo Verde Islands later today. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected today, followed by gradual strengthening on Thursday and Friday. Rene is forecast to become a hurricane in a couple of days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches).
