Conditions will gradually improve and the warning will likely be discontinued later this morning. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Genevieve was located near latitude 24.3 North, longitude 114.3 West. Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of Genevieve will move farther away from the Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is expected, and Genevieve is forecast to become a tropical depression by tonight, and degenerate into a remnant low by early Saturday morning. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Tropical storm conditions will gradually diminish later this morning within the warning area across the southwestern Baja California peninsula. SURF: Large swells produced by Genevieve are spreading northward along the coast of the Baja California peninsula. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
