DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 600 AM MDT (1200 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Genevieve was located near latitude 24.6 North, longitude 114.6 West. Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of Genevieve will move farther away from the Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is expected, and Genevieve is forecast to degenerate into a post-tropical cyclone later today. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Large swells produced by Genevieve are spreading northward along the coast of the Baja California peninsula. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
