DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karina was located near latitude 18.1 North, longitude 118.5 West. Karina is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is forecast through tonight, with gradual weakening expected to begin on Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km) from the center.
