DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was located near latitude 20.0 North, longitude 120.6 West. Lowell is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through today. A westward motion is expected to begin early Thursday and continue into the weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next couple of days, with slow weakening expected to begin by late Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches).
