DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM HST (0000 UTC), the center of Hurricane Lala was located near latitude 25.2 North, longitude 172.4 West. Lala is moving toward the north near 10 mph (17 km/h). A northwestward motion is expected by this weekend. On the forecast track, the center of Lala will continue to traverse the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument for the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Although some intensity fluctuations are possible over the next day or so, a gradual weakening trend should begin by the weekend, though Lala is forecast to remain a hurricane throughout that time. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb (28.74 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- WIND: Hurricane conditions are expected in the Hurricane Warning area today, with tropical storm conditions ongoing. Tropical storm conditions are ongoing in the Tropical Storm Warning area. SURF: Large surf associated with Lala will affect the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument for the next couple of days. These large waves will likely inundate some of the low-lying atolls, especially from French Frigate Shoals to Maro Reef.
